Spencer Ratliff is a third generation designer and builder. His grandfather was an architect that was constantly exploring new art forms. Everything from photography, to stain glass work, carpentry, gardening, and multiple avenues of design. His father has been building furniture for 30 years and owned and operated multiple different Commercial Contracting companies in Knoxville, Tennessee. Spencer started building in the garage with his dad as a kid and started is own furniture company, Old North Designs, at 24. Growing up with a wood shop, instilled a love of working with his hands and a natural skill became evident.
Over the years because of the nature of custom furniture, Spencer has grown his field from purely woodworking to now working with metals, glass, and leather. Many artists can make beautiful things but Spencer is great at making normal things beautiful. Each table or chair is artwork that is also comfortable and practical. Each bracket, or hinge is specially chosen to work with the design of his furniture not just to do a job.
Spencer currently lives and works in Knoxville, Tennessee with his wife Melody. When he's not building kick-ass furniture, he is backpacking in the Smoky Mountains and drinking whiskey.
